Tapestry
This series of hand-sewn tapestry panels has been created over the course of several years. I think of each panel as an aspect of my personal cosmology. It is my identity in appliqué form.
Each panel does not make immediately apparent what aspect of my life philosophy is being expressed. However there are elements that reoccur throughout my work. There are peaceful scenes with looming ‘threats’. There are lone, totemic figures set within magical landscapes and it is not always clear whether they are strong and at peace or simply alone, lonely, wandering, lost. Nature is grand and surreal and humans exist in her context and not her in theirs’. There are levels of what is seen and it’s unclear what is top, bottom, hidden or visible. The intention is not to offer a coherent expression of my world view but to offer an impressionistic version which is essentially true to how I experience my own life.
